☔️ Where to Play for Free on a Rainy Day in San Salvador
Published: June 2025
Fun indoor escapes when the weather won’t cooperate — and they won’t cost you a cent!
Rainy days can be tough with little ones at home, but luckily, San Salvador area has several totally free, family-friendly spots where kids can play, move, and explore indoors — no spending required. Here are my favorite rainy-day FREEbies:
📚 BINAES – Books, play, and exploration

The new National Library of El Salvador (BINAES) is more than just books — it’s an incredible public space for families, and it’s completely free. The kids’ floor features bright, playful reading areas, interactive digital screens, and cozy corners for quiet time. There are multiple zones for different age groups, including a soft play zone for toddlers. An ideal rainy day escape that combines fun and learning.
- 📍 Location: Historic Center, San Salvador
- 👶 Best for: All ages, especially under 6
🧸 Bebeteca – Parque Cuscatlán
Recently opened in Parque Cuscatlán is now a bebeteca (baby learning library). They have an outdoor and indoor section now. Inside is a soft play area, ball pit, books, toys and games for kids. It is suitable for children from 0 to 8 years old and completely free!
- 📍 Location: Parque Cuscatlán, San Salvador
- 👶 Best for: Ages 1–7
🍽️ Las Cascadas Food Court – hang out and run around

This location is sometimes under maintenance so be warned before going! Inside the Las Cascadas shopping center, right above the food court (3rd level) you’ll find a play area — perfect for kids to climb, explore, and get the wiggles out. It has a large ball pit, swing disks, a climbing wall and tubes to crawl through. It’s surrounded by tables, so parents can relax while keeping an eye on the fun.
- 📍 Location: Las Cascadas, Antiguo Cuscatlán
- 👶 Best for: Ages 1–7
🛝 Multiplaza – Multiple free play zones inside the mall

Multiplaza goes above and beyond with a great selection of free play areas. Be warned these spaces open a bit later in the morning (9 or 10am) so don’t get there too early!
- Food court play area (Level 2)
In the main food court area there are two playgrounds, one for the older kids, and one for the young ones. The older kids playground is your standard plastic play area to climb and slide down. For the younger kids there is a modern soft play area with a big cute green worm they can climb on. - Soft play area (Downstairs near San Martin) This play area is dinosaur themed, it has soft carpet and soft dinosaurs that kids can climb, slide and jump off of. Don’t forget your socks or you can’t get in!
- There is also a small play area right in front of Prisma Moda on the second level. It has slides and a teeter-totter.
👉 Bonus note: Right next to the dinosaur area, you’ll often find a paid inflatable/soft play installation that rotates monthly. It’s very tempting for kids and usually costs $5 for 30 minutes, payable online via card only — so come prepared if you think your child will want to try it!
- 📍 Location: Multiplaza, San Salvador
- 👶 Best for: Babies to age 8
Reminder!
Pack socks for indoor play areas (most require them)! If you forget, you will be running through the mall looking for cheap socks with grumpy toddlers (been there…)
Smaller indoor play areas:
There a couple other malls which have small indoor play areas. They are VERY small. But if you are desperate to get out of the house, don’t want to spend anything and it is near you, they could definitely be worth it.
Here is the list so far:
-El Paseo mall: By the food court, a small playground.
-Olivos Plaza: By the food court
Hopefully more public indoor play spaces start popping up in the city. We are searching for them! If you know of more free indoor play spaces, let me know in the comments! ❤️
