Yes — this is one of the best national parks in El Salvador for young children. The path includes a set of long staircases at the beginning, leading up to the first viewpoint. After that, the trail becomes mostly flat and follows the curve of the crater, making it much easier to explore with kids.
Even toddlers can manage much of the walk on their own — my two-year-old did most of it without being carried!

There are two small bathrooms inside the park. Both are usually clean and have the essentials: One at the bottom near the entrance – often busy with a line. Another near the playground at the top – usually less crowded and a better option if you can wait. So, pro tip: Skip the line and plan to use the top bathroom if you can!
🍽️ Where to Eat Near El Boquerón
Just outside the entrance you’ll find snack vendors selling typical snacks like corn on the cob, atol, fresh fruit and drinks. We always buy the local berries — this is one of the only places you can find them! There is also a cafe at the top.
For a proper sit-down meal, there are several family-friendly restaurants along the road up the volcano, many with scenic views and playgrounds.
